Business Out of a Hobby:
The Story of One Mom's Decision to Start a Business from Home
Hi, my name is Sherri
Yukel, back in 1999 I completely enjoyed being home with my children, but
to simply put it, I needed a "hobby" for myself fulfillment. I
also wanted to feel like I could contribute some income to the family
household.
To the amusement of my husband, I started "tinkering" creating
unique items for my children and friends who were having babies. To make a
LONG story short...from the start of my tinkering, the business concept
has completely evolved into a much larger thing. By venturing off into
building web sites to sell the items I enjoyed creating, I have met many
business contacts along the way.
We are now primarily an "EVENT PARTY" business, specializing in
baby showers, bridal showers, bachelorette parties, birthday parties and
much more. We also have several vendors from across the country who sell
on our sites too.
In 2003, we hired our first employee; she's been amazing just like the
rest of our now 12+ employees. One of the most recent hires happens to be
my "husband" :)... he left his professional engineering job to
join this exciting e-commerce world of business.
We just built and moved into our new 6000 sq ft building in December of
2004 and are already worried we are going to outgrow it. We currently
average 100-150 orders daily and are projected to easily exceed our goals
that we had set for the year. We also drop ship and wholesale to many
